My fourth daughter, first UC, was born at our home this past October. I've been through a lot and this has been my single most memorable experience. It's given me a lot of confidence in myself and this world and a whole lot of clarity and insight on life itself.

It was always important to me that the placenta that gave Della life, the placenta that tied us together... be put back into this earth as a symbolic "Thank You" to the forces that give us life. Because Della was born unto me in October and because I live in Minnesota, this wasn't to be at that time so we stored it away in the depths of our freezer.

Spring came and with it, my sister brought into this world a beautiful son, also born UC. We decided to share in this celebration and two weekends ago, our babies gave back to the earth that which was given to them.

We planted lilacs above as a symbol of this time. A place that belongs only to our children. We will watch them grow and always remember these glorious moments when our children were born free.
