Wheatgrass is easy to grow indoors year round in trays. Wheatgrass must be pressed with a juicer or press that is able to juice grasses. There are many varieties available, from hand cranked to electric. To be effective you should drink wheatgrass juice immediately after juicing.
Healing with Wheatgrass Juice
Wheatgrass is high in oxygen like all green plants that contain chlorophyll. The brain and all body tissues function at an optimal level in a highly-oxygenated environment.
It takes minutes to digest wheatgrass juice and uses up very little body energy.
Science has proven that chlorophyll arrests growth and development of unfriendly bacteria.
Chlorophyll (wheatgrass) rebuilds the bloodstream.
Farmers in the Midwest who have sterile cows and bulls put them on wheatgrass to restore fertility. (The high magnesium content in chlorophyll builds enzymes that restore the sex hormones.)
Chlorophyll can be extracted from many plants, but wheatgrass is superior because it has been found to have over 100 elements needed by man. If grown in organic soil, it absorbs 92 of the known 102 minerals from the soil.
Liquid chlorophyll gets into the tissues, refines them and makes them over.
Liquid chlorophyll washes drug deposits from the body.
Chlorophyll neutralizes toxins in the body.
Chlorophyll helps purify the liver.
Chlorophyll improves blood sugar problems.
Chlorophyll: the life-blood of plants, is the main ingredient in wheatgrass. Chlorophyll cleanses the blood by improving the supply of oxygen to the circulatory system. Wheatgrass is known for cleansing the lymph system, building the blood, restoring balance in the body, removing toxic metals from the cells and detoxifying and regenerating the liver. Chlorophyll protects us from carcinogens in our food and in our air. Chlorophyll is anti-bacterial and can be used inside and outside the body as a healer. In the American Journal of Surgery (1940), Benjamin Gruskin, M.D. recommends chlorophyll for its antiseptic benefits. Among others here are some clinical uses for chlorophyll: neutralize strep infections, heal wounds, hasten skin grafting, cure chronic sinusitis, overcome chronic inner-ear inflammation and infection, reduce varicose veins and heal leg ulcers, eliminate impetigo and other scabby eruptions, successfully treat inflammation of the uterine cervix, get rid of parasitic vaginal infections, reduce typhoid fever.
"Chlorophyll, the natural plant pigment that lends its color to grass, leaves, and many of the vegetables we eat, may play an important role in prevention of certain cancers. Researchers in the early 1980s discovered that chlorophylls and related chemicals can inhibit the ability of certain DNA-damaging chemicals to cause mutations in bacteria. How might this kind of "anti-mutagenic" activity be important in cancer prevention? Molecular geneticists now know that most if not all human cancers carry mutations in one or more genes that control the rates at which individual cells divide, differentiate, or die. According to current thinking, various combinations of mutations that upset this delicate balance to favor uncontrolled cell growth can then enable this irreversibly damaged cell to form a primary cancer in the lung, liver, blood, bone, skin, or another body organ. Therefore, it seems at least theoretically possible that the anti-mutagenic power of the chlorophylls might allow them to inhibit or reduce the formation of cancers in humans. Recent progress in our laboratory and elsewhere has brought this promise closer to realization."-George S. Bailey, Ph.D.
Liquid Oxygen: Wheatgrass has been shown to expand the blood vessels and improve circulation; this improves oxygenation of blood and the ability to rid the blood of toxins. The need to improve oxygenation of the blood has been emphasized again and again in human nutrition.
Vitamins:
that occur naturally in foods are far superior to those found in synthetic supplements. Doesn't this simply make sense? Wheatgrass contains as much Vitamin A as carrots, as much Vitamin C as citrus fruits, and ample supplies of Vitamin E and B complex vitamins. Vitamins in this natural, raw state are easily absorbed.
Minerals:
Having more than 90 organic minerals, including calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron and sodium, which aid in maintaining digestion, metabolism, oxygen transport and fluid regulation throughout the body. Choline, magnesium, and potassium work together to detoxify and regenerate the liver.
Amino Acids
are the building blocks of protein. A lack of proper amounts of amino acids in our food can lead to allergies and poor immunity against bacteria and diseases. Amino acids like valine control the ability to deal with stress: it literally calms the nerves.
Enzymes: Amylase: facilitates starch digestion Superoxide; Dismutase: protects cells from damage due to aging, infections, superoxides, radiation and air pollutants Cytrochrome; Oxidase: an antioxidant used for proper cell respiration and; Transhydrogenase: keeps heart muscle tissue toned Lipase: fat-splitting enzyme Protease: aids in protein digestion;
Growing problems
My seeds won't sprout, or only a few sprout: The problem could be old seeds. Try to buy at health food stores that supply bulk seeds and grains and refresh their supplies on a regular basis. Buy organic.
My wheatgrass have some moldy areas around the roots: The problem could be over watering. Water only enough to give moisture, not so that mold can grow. Keep trays moist with a spray bottle instead of drenching trays. Drinking wheatgrass that has a bad mold problem can lead to Headaches or a ill feeling.
My wheatgrass is limp and droopy: The problem could be too much sun. Wheatgrass grows best in indirect light, under the shade of a tree or the like.
