I can't tell you how glad I am that I did this!

Belly masks or belly casting is a fun way to capture your pregnant form through a simple and easy plaster sculpture. You can buy kits online or purchase skin safe (medical grade) plaster strips from an art store.

I always wanted to do this but I never had. I wasn’t sure what I’d do with my belly cast. I knew I’d love painting it as I’m artistic, but what in a long term sense do you do with it? I wasn’t sure if I’d hang it up on the wall. Wouldn’t people think I’m weird? Storing it away for years seemed like a hassle (I have tons of kids and sentimental items do I really need ONE more?)

My husband had an art class last semester where he helped people do some face casts. He assured me it really was easy, although somewhat messy. A good friend of mine knew I wanted to do this and actually gifted us a casting kit from www.proudbody.com. It made a really wonderful and special gift. I highly recommend anyone doing this project.  

We had a total blast doing it. I loved my husband wrapping me with the plaster gauze and smoothing it out. We had a lot of fun and it was very romantic. It also didn’t take a long time at all, just about 40 minutes from start to finish including clean up time.

When my husband took the cast off of me it peeled off super easily as promised and I was shocked at how cool it was to see me in plaster form! I squealed with delight and got a real sense of knowing that I’ll be able to look at it and remember being pregnant. (You really do forget what your belly shape REALLY looks like after a while).

It was a different perspective to look at myself like that as well! In the morning we showed it to the kids and they loved it and we all laughed as they tried it on for size.

My close female friends and I are decorating the belly cast pictured to the left with Ricky at my blessing way. I will update with pictures! And I'l be adding an article about blessingways! Now that my belly cast is done I do display it in my home. I love it and I'm proud of it.
