The woman is naked and kneeling because to me that seems the most natural way to give birth. I wanted her to look pretty and feminine because birthing a child is one of the most womanly acts a woman can perform. Beneath her are the four elements because to me birth brings a woman back to the very basis of her nature. Behind her is the night sky with light breaking on the horizon because birth is the dawn to a new facet of womanhood. Above her head she holds an orb of light an engery symbolizing the focus and power birth requires. The hand prints on the stomach are the warm comforting hands of someone she loves.
